Accuracy in Media

President Trump escalated his battle with the liberal media on Friday when he tweeted that they were “the enemy of the American people,” but he wasn’t the first person to place that label on them.

At Accuracy in Media’s “ObamaNation—A Day of Truth” conference in September 2012, Democratic pollster Patrick Caddell ripped into the media for their bias:

“The press’s job is to stand in the ramparts and protect the liberty and freedom of all of us from a government and from organized governmental power. When they desert those ramparts and they go to serve—to decide that they will now become active participants—when they decide that their job is not simply to tell you who you may vote for, and who you may not, but, worse—and this is the danger of the last two weeks—what truth that you may know, as an American, and what truth you are not allowed to know, they have, then, made themselves a fundamental threat to the democracy, and, in my opinion, made themselves the enemy of the American people. And it is a threat to the very future of this country if…we allow this stuff to go on, and…we’ve crossed a whole new and frightening slide on the slippery slope this last two weeks, and it needs to be talked about.”

Things that can’t go on, won’t. Press has seen its day unless it goes back to the old ways of getting the straight scoop out.

  • mioahu

    Mainstream media is a disgrace.

  • tkrepel

Pat Caddell hasn’t done any work for Democrats for decades (as his appearance at an AIM event ought to have shown). Why do you dishonestly insist on labeling him as a Democrat?

  • TEXAS1111

He self identifies as a Democrat. That is all that matters. Right?

  • Peter Smith

Read the WSJ, it’s about the most reliable there is. CNN is a f***ing joke. They just can’t stop their Obama love fest. It’s like a disease.

  • Hal_Aluya

Don’t kid yourself. There’s a lot of FAKE news in the Wall Street Journal. A LOT. The WSJ has a fairly strong, and quite readily visible agenda if you are well informed.

  • Tony bellotte

Agree. Reporting fake news or news with exploded leftist favored wording harms all people. We want the truth not your lies, half truths, leftist analysis. We are intelligent humans and can do our own analysis. You just report the facts or get out of business!

  • NY4good

Wasn’t this called yellow journalism during roosevelt’s era? Now it is a jaundice or hepatitis-“J” generated by the media that is pro socialist

  • Tony bellotte

    He is a registered democrat!

  • tkrepel

I’ve seen no proof of this.

  • tkrepel

All Caddell has done in the past couple decades is bash Dems and fawn over conservatives. That’s not a Democrat.

  • Peter Horn

Maybe he got over being a Democrat. It happens.

  • Clarice ~

It’s common knowledge! A quick research will wear any doubts you have.

  • Clarice ~

I don’t feel that he fawns over anyone. He’s simply a straight shooter! Refreshing Isn’t It?

It was called “yellow journalism” long before FDR. Mock news and distortions date back to Pre-Revolutionary America. Several intense periods of the “war with words” occurred during the Jacksonian period and the decade leading up to the Civil War.

Yellow journalism continued after the Civil War with another intense period during the rise of Progressivism and the Trust Busters in the 1890-1910 period. Media hysteria bloomed to a pitch fever under William Randolph Hearst to cause the Spanish American War.

The election of 1912 was all propaganda that brought us Woodrow Wilson. In concert with the media, Wilson built support for his progressive programs. The media perpetuated the lie that Wilson “kept us out of war” in the 1916 bid for re-election. Several months after he won, he plunged the US into World War I.

Wilson set up a propaganda machine managed by Edward Bernays that remains the map and blueprint for what we call “modern day journalism.” When asked where did the Nazis learn how to use propaganda effectively, Joseph Goebbels said “from the Americans during the (Great) war.

The Wilson Administration and Bernays’ actions are a key flash point to understand how the media manipulates the minds of the common people around the planet. Read about Bernays and his methods at

No, he’s not a communist. Caddell was chief polling analyst for George McGovern in 1972. Political types labeled McGovern a “radical.” Cadell is what we used to know in the 60’s as a “classical liberal” tough on international issues and activists for “do-gooder” programs such as LBJ’s continual rape of the taxpayers called the Great Society.

Cadell worked for Jimmy Carter in 1976 and 1980, Gary Hart in 1984, Joe Biden in 1988, and Jerry Brown (no conservative by any stretch) in 1992.

Cadell became critical of the media and its advocacy of communist doctrine and agenda. Communists like yourself want to silence Cadell and suppress any criticism from him because he dares to call out your lies and deceptions. That doesn’t make him a conservative. It makes him a critic. You might want to use some critical thinking yourself instead of sucking on the straw of collectivist utopianism. Then reality might become more clear to you.

  • tkrepel

Who are you accusing of being a communist? Not me, since pointing out the fact that Caddell is not the Democrat he and AIM claim is not evidence of that.
