CNN’s John King mocked the Internal Revenue Service’s claim that they have lost two years worth of emails involving former official Lois Lerner:
Do you believe in the Easter bunny? Do you believe in Santa Claus? Do you believe that Lois Lerner’s emails suddenly went poof?
King said that even if we assume that a horrible accident did occur, for the IRS to wait a year to tell Congress makes him suspicious.
Associated Press White House Correspondent Julie Pace agreed, telling King that there was “nothing good” in the way the IRS handled the situation. She said that with all the technology available today, it is hard to believe they couldn’t recover the missing emails, and that they should have told Congress at the beginning of the investigation.
King noted that while the Obama administration has called the IRS investigation partisan and wants it shut down, this latest revelation raises a lot of questions, ensuring that Congress will continue to investigate.
If the Obama administration thought they had put the IRS scandal behind them, this latest revelation shows that is far from the case, and it will continue to haunt them at least until they come clean.
