CNN’s Campbell Brown Disses Fox and MSNBC

By Don  |  July 22, 2009

In an interview last week with Julie Menin CNN anchor Campbell Brown said that the network is the only one doing journalism when compared to Fox and MSNBC.

From TVNewser

CNN's Campbell Brown sat down late last week with Julie Menin. And right out of the gate, Brown explained what sets CNN apart from its competitors. "CNN is the only one who's still doing journalism," said Brown, anchor of CNN's 8pmET program. "I don't mean that as a criticism of what the other guys are doing, it's just...we're comparing apples and oranges. Fox has made a choice to go in one direction, MSNBC has made a choice to go in the other direction."

Last night, FNC's Greta Van Susteren responded, "[W]ile I don't want to engage in a verbal duel, ON THE RECORD at 10pm has been steeped in economics, finance, government, bailouts, economy and politics (and yes, crime and we did some Michael Jackson) so I find it hard to think we are not 'doing journalism.' I am proud of ON THE RECORD at 10pm and proud of Fox News for supporting us -- if you notice, ON THE RECORD does journalism the 'old fashion way' -- meaning we hit the road traveling all the time."

Frankly I don't see any real difference between CNN, Fox and MSNBC when it comes to journalism.  Whate sets them apart is the slant they put on what they report and the very idea that CNN is the only cable news network "doing journalism" is laughable.

CNN is a propaganda outlet for the Obama White House pure and simple.

They would gladly cover Obama using the toilet if he wished -and you can hear them chortle when anything negative happens to the Republicans.

This is particularly evident in their anti-Palin coverage which is transparent to anyone who can either hear or see -both is unrequired overkill!

To call what they do “journalism” is a travesty!

I watch CNN in wonderment at how low the media has sunk -same as I listen to Rush Limbaugh not as a believer but again wondering how things can have come to this!

AIM seems to be among the best news sources going -but frankly -it too sometimes is “over the edge”.

We need more reporting and less editorializing -everywhere!

“And that’s the way it is!”  (You got THOSE articles right for sure!)

Before Ms. Brown starts pointing fingers she should tell everybody who her Daddy is and if he ever went to jail for being one of Louisiana’s crooked politicians.  I think this might even the playing field.  Thank You.

Sure Campbell, The black version of the Pillsbury Do-Boy that covered for her while she was on leave was so far in Obama’s pocket that he could hand Obama change for the parking meter, if she calls him a journalist she should replace Letterman.

It was the mantra for military broadcasters/journalist entering the work of journalism from their training that the job was “to inform and then to entertain”.  One’s credibility on air or in print rested solely on reporting information verified from more than a single source such as AP, UPI, or Reuters or even eyewitness accounts.  Credibility in journalism is dead, gone, and has been replaced by artfully stated opinion.  Attributing one’s report of fact to credible sources is trumped by more passive speech like, “sources tell us…polls suggests a move toward…you’ll recall our earlier report…(or best of all)...our interview with another broadcaster, Campbell Brown who isn’t even in the same country as the event on which she is,  commenting , she tells us…
Integrity is gone and fact is now myth.  It really doesn’t matter if it’s Campbell Brown, Cronkite, Rather, Jason Blair, and yes even sometimes Aronoff, Irvine, & Buchanan.  Pick your spin and wave goodbye to objectivity, honesty, and facts minus the guided analysis.

Campbell Brown plays the holier than thou role, while her old man as Insurance Commissioner of Louisiana in 2003 got caught in a fraud and conspiracy case, convicted and sent to federal prison.

These MSM types like to delve into the private lives of other people, so figured turnabout is fair play.

In 2003, CNN’s Campbell Brown’s father Jim Brown served six months in federal prison, after being convicted of lying to a federal agent, during a fraud and conspiracy investigation involving Cascade Insurance Co. At the time, Jim Brown was serving as the insurance commissioner of Louisiana, a position which he was forced to resign after the U.S. Supreme Court refused his appeal for the second time. Brown continued that position’s legacy, as the two previous insurance commissioners were convicted of taking bribes and illegal campaign contributions from insurance companies, and still sits in federal prison.

She also hates Fox News for no less than two reasons, 1) Neilson released this year’s numbers, Fox News was #1 in 10 out of 10 news shows, 2) She wanted to be a Fox News Democratic Guest for opposing opinions. They laughed at her and said, “You’re kidding me, right.” Then laughter followed.

The MSM is so reality-impaired, one would have to have lost their senses to believe most of what they say.  Real journalism is lost art in this country.  Is there is village somewhere missing it’s idiot?

Re: Post 5;

Do you have an uncontrollable obsession to attack the messenger (and, in this instance, the messenger’s father) rather than dealing intelligently with the issue at hand?  (Note the word “intelligently”.)

Talking about someone being “holier than thou”!

(Do you know the definition of “hypocrite”?)

I think anyone who is not an ideological partisan would probably agree that FOX News is the newstalk/infotainment cable channel of the right-wingers; that MSNBC is the newstalk/infotainment cable channel of the left-wingers; and, that CNN operates somehwere between the two, probably more left of center than not.

I have a lifelong friend who was in the classic car restoration and sales business for many, many years, e.g., restoring Auburns, Cords, Duesenbergs, etc., - and he has a favorite saying - “There’s an ass for every seat!”

That’s the deal with the media today.  Each is a figurative seat that has its own group of asses - and none of the media are any better nor any worse at accomodating and pandering to their respective group of asses than are any others.

FOX News panders to the extreme right; MSNBC panders to the extreme left; and CNN probably panders predominantly to the more moderate left.

It’s all about money, market niche and market share.

TK ~ my sister was a car saleslady for many years, and to this day she says:  “There’s an ass for every seat!”

I don’t think tk you understand what you do to the article, and the comments section everytime you open your fat ugly mouth or typing whatever.  You disgust me, you are wrong on everything you say, you are a very scary person.

Envision news over the last couple decades that instead of shaping public debate with biased polling data, showed the extent of disparity in conflicting polls.  News that instead of giving us war casualty reports and calling it done, stated gains our side made toward particular weekly or daily objectives.  News that instilled pride in the the victories of democracy, capitalism; news that informed everyone of contributions of American business (on an equal time bases to the horrors of greed far more endemic in state dominated economies); news of actual value and risk one takes as a Christian missionary in foreign lands (or in one’s own community for that matter) on a scale that no other faith remotely approaches.
That would be news I could see as far more fair and balanced than Fox.  Fox still sees to it that victims still outnumber victors on at least an 8:1 ratio and that salvation from victimhood is still more governmentally achieved than by personal initiative on about the same ratio.  That leaves no real news that serves the far right as I see it.  Fox sooths the moderate right & left and all other news outlets are merely pupits of “the U.S. is the world’sbullying thug” mentality.  None on the left can whine that their needs are not fully assuaged.  Not that such fact would prevent them from whining all the same.

Yeah, I looked it up in my dictionary, and found your picture next to the word.

You are always talking about “ideological partisans”, does that not describe your posts perfectly?

Good posts everyone, except tk…

Denny,

Could not agree more, there is no real news any longer, the closest you will find it will be on the Fox News Channel, where prominent Democrats even show up. Their audience is 40% Republican, and 42% Democrat. This was verified by Rasmussen, Gallup, and I am sure this killed Nielsen Ratings Service, but Fox News scored 10 #1 news shows, and Ranked #1 in Business Channels.

Re: Post 12;

Well, I suppose I’m an ideological “partisan moderate”, or a “partisan Independent”, or a “partisan middle-of-the-roader”, or a “partisan Traditionalist”, or a “partisan anti-partisan”!

What I really despise, however, is ideological EXTREMISM - whether religious, political, social, cultural - whatever!  I am definitely opposed to “extremism”.  So, if it makes you happy, you can also call me an “extreme anti-extremist”, too!

(Apparently, however, you just really don’t get the message - whatever YOU want to call it!  So - you can leave it this: 98% of the time I am NOT going to be in agreement with the stuff YOU post here!)

Tyler,

He does this in every thread, he just cannot stay on subject, ever. He always uses deflection to get us off topic by attacking anyone who disagrees with his twisted mind.
