Cheney Blasts NY Times Over Wiretap Expose

Former Vice President Dick Cheney blasted the New York Times for its article in 2005 on warrantless wiretaps.

During Dick Cheney’s follow-up to Barack Obama’s national security speech this morning, the former Vice President slammed The New York Times for its 2005 piece on the NSA’s warrantless wiretapping program.
Our government prevented attacks and saved lives through the Terrorist Surveillance Program, which let us intercept calls and track contacts between Al Qaeda operatives and persons inside the United States. The program was top secret, and for good reason, until the editors of the New York Times got it and put it on the front page. After 9/11, the Times had spent months publishing the pictures and the stories of everyone killed by Al Qaeda on 9/11. Now here was that same newspaper publishing secrets in a way that could only help Al Qaeda. It impressed the Pulitzer committee, but it damn sure didn’t serve the interests of our country, or the safety of our people.
Before landing on page one, President Bush had implied to Times executive editor Bill Keller that he'd have "blood on [his] hands" if the paper went through with publication.

How 4,000 dead soldiers, 30,000 soldiers seriously wounded or injured, 100,000 local civilians dead and hundred of thousands of locals injured in Afghanistan and Iraq - - translates into “saved lives” is beyond me (???)
