Mr. Arenstein should stand up for what he believes is the truth, after all he is a news correspondent. Millions of Americans already know that marijuana is essentially harmless. For eighty years law enforcement has been making false claims about its dangers and in that time all of them have been proven false. People from all walks of life use it as a safe alternative to alcohol, symptom relief, and simple enjoyment without the damaging effects that alcohol and prescription medicine have. Why should anyone apologize for ignoring an unjust law; that is how this country was built wasn’t it? If marijuana was legal than hemp would also be legal, something the cotton and lumber industry most likely would rather not see. Hemp cultivation is ten times more productive per acre than cotton and requires no chemical to grow. Paper made from hemp is of the best quality and does not require chemicals to make. Paper made from trees requires toxic chemicals that destroy the environment and destroys habitat. Instead we arrest our own citizens to protect big industry under the lie that marijuana is harmful or some how immoral.
