Accuracy in Media

Writing before Obama won the election, Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel of the Daily Caller contended that bias, dishonesty, and corruption were helping to undermine and destroy the liberal media. “The broadcast networks, the big daily newspapers, the newsweeklies—they’re done,” they said. “It’s only a matter of time, and everyone who works there knows it.”

Unfortunately, there is no evidence this is the case. Although liberal news outlets are losing viewers and readers, Obama’s victory has invigorated these news organizations and given them a new lease on life. They are more powerful than ever because they correctly predicted the race.  They understood the nature of the electorate and how it had shifted in Obama’s favor. What they have achieved is something that the conservative media were striving for—a measure of credibility. It came not through their reporting, of course, but through their emphasis on polls and an understanding of how a progressive infrastructure, financed largely by George Soros, has assumed great importance for the Democratic Party machine.

Many in the liberal media are gloating that so many Fox News commentators were proven wrong in their predictions of a Romney victory. Not surprisingly, the conservative predictions of a Romney victory were mocked on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show.

By contrast, Nate Silver of The New York Times, one of the nation’s most prominent liberal outlets, has achieved enormous credibility, having correctly predicted Obama’s victory and the outcome in 50 out of 50 states. USA Today noted, “Silver had been under fire from Republicans for consistently putting Obama’s chance of winning in a range of 60-90 percent.” The FiveThirtyEight blogger turned out to be correct.

Bret Baier used his “Winners & Losers” segment on the Fox News Channel Special Report program to acknowledge that liberal or Democratic-leaning surveys and polls came out on top in predicting this year’s presidential election. He noted that a Fordham University study “credits the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling (PPP) as the most accurate of the survey companies this year.” PPP also does a poll in partnership with the Daily Kos and the Services Employees International Union (SEIU), and it was second.

Rasmussen, one of the favorite polls of conservatives, was near the bottom of the list of the 28 polling organizations. Rasmussen had Romney leading Obama 49-48 percent on Election Day.

University of Colorado political science professors Kenneth Bickers and Michael Berry, who appeared on Fox News and talk radio, had projected an Electoral College landslide for Mitt Romney based on a model using economic factors such as unemployment data and changes in personal income. On the Fox Business website, Gerri Willis cited the prediction, noting that “Obama faces the headwinds of history. No President since FDR has been re-elected when unemployment is above 8 percent.” How many times did we hear that statistic mentioned in the context of the belief that Romney was destined to win?

“The model was wrong,” Bickers is now quoted as saying. Eric Gorski of the Denver Post reported, “Bickers said the Obama campaign managed to neutralize Romney’s ‘strengths on economic stewardship’—exit polls showed voters held similar views on each candidate’s ability to steer the economy—in part by shifting attention to issues such as immigration and women’s reproductive rights that play to Obama’s strengths.”

None of this negates the fact that Carlson and Patel were correct in their analysis of liberal media bias. They wrote, “Not in our lifetimes have so many in the press dropped the pretense of objectivity in order to help a political candidate. The media are rooting for Barack Obama. They’re not hiding it.” They went on to say that “many in the press are every bit as corrupt as conservatives have accused them of being,” but added, “The good news is, it’s almost over.”

It’s not over. Conservative use of flawed polling data has played into the hands of the liberal media. In order to recapture credibility in covering politics, the conservative media will have to acknowledge not only the bias on the other side, but the bias on their own.

A good start was made by Breitbart’s John Nolte, who wrote: “Mea culpa. We were dead wrong about the polls. Not only did the Real Clear Politics poll of polls end up being almost perfectly precise, but the most accurate pollster of the 2012 election cycle ended up being the Daily Kos’ Public Policy Polling (PPP). My guys, Gallup and Rasmussen, didn’t even make the top twenty.”

Real Clear Politics, an aggregator of polls, had Obama winning by 2.5 percent. The actual results were Obama 50.8 and Romney 48.3.

Yeah, they won a battle. But it will not last. They’re just seen as partisan hacks who manipulated an election. Just consider: Will you now go out a resubscribe to the NY Times, just because they predicted this election right? Nope, and neither will I. Case closed.

  • what

George Soros, the old Nazi, is now in charge of this country.

  • what

I am afraid. most people will resubscribe, they indoctrination and dumbing down continues. Sfter 4 more years of this we will not rcognize this country any more.

  • devan95

They may have won the battle but the war will be brutal. Already RIFageddon has begun and by the end of the next 4 years it will be so bad here we will all be going to Europe looking for work. The media will lose in the end because they will have no advertisers left who can afford the cost of ads. My family is already cutting all non-essential spending (and we weren’t spending a whole lot before!)

  • I guess we should just try to enjoy what freedoms and liberties remain to us. So, as they say in Russia, pour me another one comrade. I’m going to try to get my dog out of this fight and just let this whole thing self destruct on it’s own.

Cliff your off the cliff who owns the media Rothschild and Zionist tell some truth stand up be a real catholic why you still have time

IF Allen West proves fraud was committed in his district to take the vote from him, won’t this open up a WHOLE can of worms? I see reports here and there that in certain areas of the country there was massive voting fraud.

IS this being looked into by any REAL reporters, journalists?

We have a BIG problem in our country with LIARS and very deceitful people and manipulation of our government by evil people like George Soros.

Certainly we are destined for a second Civil War in this country. Unless there is a major natural disaster or a nuclear device is detonated in Washington DC, NYC or other US population center.

Watch Europe closely, the only difference between them and us are the 300 million guns in private hands in US. Game changer…or government changer…

Ugly, ugly times ahead. Wise man would prepare himself.

  • lickystick

You’ll play in the game whether you want to or not. Thinking “self destruction” will occur without widespread damage is folly. If you don’t prepare yourself for the coming storm, at the very least, you will get very wet.

Lets never forget how the liberal media (ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC & CNN) and votes by illegal immigrants won the election for Obama. At least 51% of the nations and corporate media no longer cares about truth and rules of law, somehow we must overcome and overtake this lawlessness and unamerican activity.

  • LQuackenbush

Thank God for the internet and self education. Newspapers and the Liberal media are no longer credible and they’ll all soon become insolvent when Soros bites it…

We as a people had the choice Obama or Romney, unfortunately a few million more went with Obama and especially in the states with the largest electoral votes.

It may look dark and gloomy as it does just before the dawn.
The sad truth is we as a nation has allowed the Left to denigrate the Right from our very educational institutions.

We do not pick the Fight, because deep within us we are afraid of been called out as hypocrites, liars and Christian fanatics.

Let me tell you. None is without sin.

We in the religious community, feel vulnerable when the spotlight is on us, we are not perfect. We all fall short , we may be exposed.
The Left with their lies and distortions can never be allowed to win in the end.
Evil is upon us and we chose it because we have lost our way.
We now sanction by executive decree the murder of the unborn in our religious institutions. We demand that the Church accept and sanction same sex marriages. Evolution is our bible, lust and depravity our idols. We have lost our way.
The choice was between a man of God or a man of Man.
America chose the man of Man.
So the Father duly notes our Choice!

    A Hypothetical:
IF the media were made to pay in their own blood for the lies they’ve told protecting obama, do y’all think they’d still lie?
Example: Someone over at nbc tells another massive lie in favor of obama, while someone else, say, over at cbs takes a beating for that lie and is told so, do y’all think they’d keep lying to us every day?
I think they’d run out of matyrs real quick!

First of all, fox news has the highest rated news of any TV news source. Second, just because fivethirtyeight predicted the election correctly doesn’t mean it’s liberally biased. Third, looking at all the paranoid uninformed people in the comments, i will go through each of your arguments.

Larry Sparks: Illegal immigrants can’t vote unless they’ve become citizens.
magi52: Election fraud is at an all time low. The chance that the election will be decided by a single case of election fraud is tiny.
Don DeVan: I can only barely tell what you are saying. If the “liberal” media indeed forces all large businesses out of America, then I will be genuinely surprised. If large businesses had a problem with said media outlets, they wouldn’t support them in the first place.
Weasler & What: So… Predicting an election correctly means you are biased?
Bruce Brinkmann: Now that’s just a bit lazy.
lickystick111: In the end, anarchy doesn’t work, and we are still not dumb enough to try to militarily destroy the US government. Also, since when did everyone in America have a gun?
what(again): My comrades, a person on the internet has ratted us out! Anyone he doesn’t like must be a nazi!
honestbabe: I hope you are joking. Almost 80% of the people on the internet are young democrats.
WhiteFalcon1: That’s horrible… Why would you even suggest that?
Anthony: Some of us aren’t religious – respect our right not to choose the candidate on the religious right.

Can you be more specific about these lies. What Lies are being told?

  • The Almighty Liberal Media, The Most Powerful Force Known To Man

If you listen to conservatives, you’d be at a loss to describe what exactly the liberal media can’t do.

According to them:•The liberal media has controlled the outcome of every election, except for 2004, 2000, 1988, 1984, and 1980 when it apparently went on vacation.

•The liberal media has chosen every losing Republican presidential nominee, but apparently had no role in elevating the former governor of Texas or the former actor/governor.

•The liberal media has shielded and protected Democratic politicians, which is why we don’t know anything about Bill Clinton’s sex life or every possible random relative of President Obama’s or the inside desires of every staffer who has worked for Hillary Clinton ever.

•The liberal media has invented meteorological terms in order to fight for the climate change agenda, despite the media’s habit of pretending like crackpot science is on equal footing with climate science.

•The liberal media is feverishly anti-war, yet somehow can’t stop putting pro-war propaganda on its front pages or in its major Sunday news programming.

•The liberal media definitely made Mitt Romney into a disingenuous deceptive candidate and also skewed the polls against him and also made black voters (who are total racists) turn against him. All in one election cycle!

•The liberal media is definitely socialist, even though the most liberal voice it can often muster is a corporate shill like Harold Ford while treating a popular populist like Sen. Elizabeth Warren like she’s Chairman Mao on a bad day.

•The liberal media totally made gay marriage popular, apparently by showcasing the insane voices opposed to marriage equality and exposing them for being bigots. Okay maybe this one is true.

•The liberal media works in constant service of the left and Democratic parties, and as such you should ignore the media’s regular imbalance in favor of conservative and Republican voices even when their party and positions have been in the minority in a succession of elections.

    · The Liberal media is no friend to the Black Man or Woman for that matter. The Liberal Media Exploits Black Folks for their own gain. The Liberal Media refuses to focus on Violent Black Crime – Black Crime that is Crippling our Nation and tearing U.S. apart. The Liberal Media does not provide a sanction for Violent Black Crime, but rather a sanctuary for their own Zionnist Political Agenda.
