As I get older, I become more convinced that hypocrisy and irony must be as blind as a bat, for those who practice it seem oblivious to the fact that they wear it like a clown suit at a formal wedding; plain as day, badly out of place and amusing to boot. This election year, we have provided with a classic example of this phenomenon, as evidenced by the Bobbsey Twins, Obama and Hillary, from here on referred to simply as OH for practicality, simplicity and accuracy.
Same Old, Same Old Speaking of Change
To begin with, it has become painfully obvious to many that the more this duo tries to distinguish themselves one from the other, the more we realize that they are two sides of the same coin. They speak of change even as they are no change from typical elitist liberal socialism. They speak of change even as they represent no change from the usual Left strategy of pointing fingers at America instead of at her enemies. They speak of change even as the only thing they seem capable of changing is a tire, and certainly not any tire that would take America anywhere productive.
You can change clothes, you can change diapers and you can change the channel on your television set, but you have a better chance of finding change at a nudist colony than you have of finding it between these two.
Why Can’t We All Just Get Along?
Unity is another popular slogan but, if this pair is any indication, the only thing uniting liberals is their individual selfishness and arrogance undermining their collective interest and agenda. If too many cooks spoil the soup, then this soup has become a diluted, jumbled and highly intoxicating superficial stew.
OH speak of unity, brotherhood, sisterhood and neighborhood even as they prove on a daily basis that they need to check under the hood and see why their actions have never met their words. How can we believe two people who claim to be messengers of unity when they cannot even find a way to unify their own party? How can we listen to two people who ask us to hug each other when they seem more likely to slug each other? How can we heed their calls to heal our wounds when they seem more adept at rubbing salt in their own?
I am certainly nowhere near the smartest person in town, but even I know that you cannot find unity when your ego gets in the way. Each of these two wants unity on his or her terms and with him or her at the wheel. It is easy to speak of unity when you are driving the bus. It is much harder to do so when you are a passenger. When people ignore the numbers and the math in the service of their blind ambition, unity is not served. When people associate with divisive associates, unity is not served. When 20% of your followers declare that they will vote for the GOP candidate if their hopeful is not nominated, unity is a distant illusion. When the public is fed a steady supply of why the other is mindless, clueless and simply less, unity is nowhere to be found in the menu.
Look who’s talking about unity: two combatants relentlessly pounding each other; more united in a stubborn clinch than in a mutual resolve to move this country forward. They may claim that we are all brothers and sisters, but they resemble a brother and sister fighting to see who gets the bathroom first more than anyone who has a clue on how to bring people together.
Give Peace a Change
The final slogan of this year’s election cycle I’d like to talk about is peace, but it has become quite clear that liberals know about as much about peace as they know about change and unity. Their brand of peace is more a piece of fluffy cake, sporting layers of cream with little substance. OH claim to have the strategy for troop removal without compromising American interests, for exit without compromising the blood and sacrifice of our brave soldiers and for diplomacy without compromising our nation’s integrity. They each claim to have the formula for healing international wounds, for bridging gaps and disagreements and for winning back past friends.
Unfortunately, OH’s brand of peace is misguided. It is based on compromise, retreat, surrender of integrity and appeasement. It betrays America’s interest and honor in the name of political practicality and rhetoric. It rewards those who disrespect our nation and punishes those who honor it. t is the reason why Democrats should wear their political slogans on their behinds.
That way, voters could always read their message as they run away from defending America, run away from their responsibilities, run away from their moral duty, run away from accountability, run away from truth and, simply, run away.
There are two kinds of kids who never have to fight in high school. The first kind is the one who nobody dares confront because they know he or she will never back down or give up. The second kind is the one who runs under the bed when things get tough. One of our two Democrat candidates now quotes Harry Truman’s “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” This is yet another example of how liberals have apparently lost all of their mirrors, for both of their candidates tell us that they can take the heat at the same time that they do not want to be anywhere near the stove.
These two remaining contenders speak of change, but they represent little change from past liberal policies and even little change from each other. They speak of unity, but the only thing that seems to unite them is their blind ambition to destroy the other, even if they take down their party in the effort. They speak of peace, but their message of peace is a message of compromise, appeasement, apology and surrender of precisely those things that have made America the greatest nation on earth.
Obama and Hillary, OH for short, tell us about change, unity and peace, CUP for short. One sells us cups of charismatic sweetness and the other pretends to be a neighbor chatting over cups of coffee. Two suitors, two cups, same java.
